Autonomy: The ability to take a lead on a project, working independently if necessary, and allowing others to do the same.
Ego spells the death of autonomy.
First of all, in a state of negative energy you are not operating in Wisdom, Power and Esteem. Secondly, as a leader, if you are operating in a dictator mentality you will destroy good relations, cooperation, and support. Because of the innate desire to experience happiness, people will seek to preserve and expand their inner state of Self. Therefore, they will resist the leader’s ego, which tries to reduce their sense of Wisdom, Power and Esteem. They will resist openly if they can, and covertly through sabotage if they can’t. Since ego activates ego, people often get into ego struggles, which often show up as a power struggle. Ego then, is all forms of intent to elevate a diminished state of Self, not be ‘polishing’ your inner Self, increasing your personal excellence or achievement, but by invalidating others. Ego is all efforts to increase ‘who you are’, not be expressing more Wisdom, Power or Esteem, but by trying to ‘steal’ these from others.
Your creations of your Self are subtle energies, but they are the most powerful things in your life. They begin and determine your thoughts, beliefs, actions, and therefore all other aspects of your life. Energytic leaders, such as Barack Obama, understand that to the degree that people are in positive energy, they will happily contribute their time, energy and other resources to achieve the end result. To the degree that people are unhappy, they will express that unhappiness in the form of negative energy, injecting it into the energy system, in this case our country. In organizations operating in positive energy, synergy will show up as autonomy evidenced by Obama and Biden. In an organization operating in negative energy, it will show up as sabotage, evidenced by McCain and Palin.
As the negative energy continues to fester and grow within the McCain Campaign the devastating results are becoming even more apparent. More and more campaign staff are ‘leaking’ information to the press about internal conflicts and blame. As everyone moves to protect themselves, their futures and their reputations they are moving to distance themselves from the organization. Everyday, more and more Republicans are coming out in support of the opponent- many struggling to hold on to their current constituencies. The intensity of the organizational negative energy has created a loss in commitment. There are reports of internal polarization as staff members prepare to point fingers in the event of a loss- a loss that most of the McCain staff believes is more likely than not. We see this in businesses frequently. A lack of commitment creates high rates of turnover, negative attitudes and a lack of cooperation among staff.
Yes, this writer also believes that McCain will lose. He will lose because in the absence of commitment, the internal dynamics of the organization have fractured. In this case, the intensity of the collective negative energies has created a team climate of sabotage, rebellion and indifference to the mission. The basic unit of power of any organization is the individual. If that energy is negative, universal principle dictates that organizational results will be negative as well. Yesterday 100,000 people showed up for a rally for Barack Obama in St. Louis, MO. On the same day 7,000 people showed up to listen to John McCain in North Carolina. This has been a constant theme that has played itself throughout this campaign period. This has been the basis of the McCain’s Camp’s assertion of Obama as ‘celebrity’- somehow inferring that this is undesirable. While I understand how the word is used I decided to check the actual meaning in the dictionary.
Definition: the state of being famous
Using this definition, the natural conclusion could be that both men are celebrities- with the international attention focused on this election, are they both not known to all around the globe? And yet the McCain camp may be on to something. If Obama fits the bill of ‘celebrity’, in stark contrast to McCain (by his own insistence), then by inference, perhaps McCain may be its opposite- ‘infamous’.
Definition of Infamous: Having an extremely bad reputation
Like energy attracts like energy. Energytic leaders understand that the positive energy of hope, passion, enthusiasm, confidence, affinity and collaboration brings out the innate positive energy that defines who we are. The negative energy of anger, fear, and hatred creates conflict, blame and less than desirable results.
The difference in numbers of people showing up at these rallies are a direct result of the attraction of the internal energies of these two leaders.
Perhaps Energytic leaders should strive for celebrity status.

Successful leaders understand that people are the basic energy unit and therefore the source of energy and power of any organization. Barack Obama stands out as an example of superior leadership– a leader who understands the difference between inspiration and motivation. Inspiration awakens people. Motivation moves people. Barack Obama knows that personal empowerment is the ultimate motivation of all our efforts and behaviors. Understanding this difference is what moves ordinary people from complacency to positive action. Positive action, originating in positive energy, is what yields positive results. This is the basis of his campaign, one of the most powerful Grassroots organizations ever.
Understanding the power of the ‘intrapreneurial’ spirit (intrapreneur: an entrepreneur that works within an organization) that lives within, Barack Obama doesn’t call forth volunteers– he calls forth the leader that resides in all of us. He demands personal accountability—and gets it. In Obama: Leadership for the 21st Century, I define the dynamics of human energy and organizational human energy systems. I explain how Barack Obama, by using the concept of intrapreneurship, has succeeded in establishing a culture of ingenuity, enthusiasm, passion, collaboration– unlocking new levels of personal power and control. Leaders such as Barack Obama, who are able to unleash human energy, to foster intrapreneurship will ride the wave of the future into the third millennium.

In your opinion, why do so many companies have such low employee productivity and morale?
Managers fail to understand what really motivates employees. In order for employees to perform at peak potential, employees must be in a state of positive energy. The ultimate motivation for all of us is to be happy, to feel good about ourselves. Every thought, every action, every behavior, has as its intent the belief that the end result will somehow bring us closer to happiness. Every person has an innate desire to perform and to perform well. We have a desire to express ourselves creatively. As children we are encouraged to do that. Observe children at play. As we mature in age, that innate desire for creative expression does not go away. Now as managers, we can subdue those desires - dictator managers are expert at this. I was one such manager. For years I managed by harassment and intimidation. Because my results were ok, the feedback I received was ok so there was no motivation to change my management style. What I have discovered now is that when I created a work environment that encouraged empowerment, creativity and initiative – not only did morale dramatically increase, so did productivity.
What Are Some of the Problems that Becoming an Intrapreneur will Help Solve in Businesses of All Sizes?
The problems that managers encounter on a regular basis are all related to the existence of negative energy in the organizational energy system. This negative energy will manifests itself in a number of ways, all counterproductive to what you and your teams are trying to achieve – objective of company goals. By encouraging Intrapreneurship at all levels, the problems that can be solved include:
-
Poor employee performance
-
Reduced production
-
Ineffective communications
-
A lack of cooperation among team members and departments
-
Low Morale, Low motivation, Negative attitudes
-
Absenteeism and Tardiness
-
High employee turnover
-
Lack of job satisfaction
-
A dictator mentality in management and leaders – my way or the highway
-
Indifference to the mission
-
Poor compliance with safety and organizational policies
-
Avoidable mistakes
-
Loss of customers
-
Victim mentality(this shows up in a number of ways, “everybody is picking on me, nobody helps me, the boss doesn’t help me, it’s not my fault – and my personal favorite – that’s not in my job description.”
In short you have chaos in the organization with the end result of lowered production which translates to reduced profitability.
Why Is It Important for Managers to Become Intrapreneurs?
Not only is it important that managers become intrapreneurs, companies would do well to establish a work climate that allows all employees to become intrapreneurs. For all of us life works according to a formula, a Causal Sequence of
BE → FEEL → THINK → DO → HAVE
Most business strategies operate in reverse of the Causal Sequence. Businesses focus on the ‘have’, which in most cases is a negative result such as tardiness, poor service, low productivity, etc. Businesses attempt to devise solutions to alleviate the negative result, working the sequence backwards. For instance, if a business is faced with high absenteeism often the strategy hinges on establishing punishment and restrictions instead of seeking the root cause of this result. Leaders that are suppressive could very well be contributing to the situation. Identifying and changing the negative human energy of the leadership, creates a positive change in the “BE” of the causal sequence, which will create a different result.
Current business models today fail to produce positive results because they fail to understand the pervasive, underlying motivation of every human being– the need to experience greater levels of positive Life force, Life Energy or Quantum Human Energy as it is called in the book.
To have positive results, businesses must understand this basic, innate motivation of every person. Failure to do so perpetuates low morale and keeps your business in a cycle of
What Can Business Leaders and HR Professionals of Businesses Gain From Reading “Creating the Intrapreneur”?
By not understanding the underlying factors that motivate people, leaders and managers ensure less than desirable results. Since leaders are in the unique position of being able to directly influence the Energy Climate of their teams, the question then becomes – “Am I creating positive or negative change?”
Most businesses are dysfunctional organizations that disempower their employees. In “Creating the Intrapreneur” leaders learn that corporate focus must shift from an emphasis on the bottom line to that of engaging an energized work force. The results are a more functional workplace with positive results.
This book challenges the status quo of corporate leadership to accept the larger role they play in the lives of those that they employ and to realize that empowered, energized individuals operate well in positive energy. We were not meant to operate in negative energy. In the third millennium the successful leader will manage not just from a technical perspective but from a holistic one.
Leaders can begin this process by taking a careful look at results– personal and professional. Your results will be a clear indicator of the level of negative energy in your organization. Then take a look at yourself– are you operating in negative energy? Take responsibility for your energy and begin to apply these principles in your own life. And then encourage and lead others to do the same.
Can you explain how external circumstances don’t determine happiness?
Your happiness, your emotional pain, is never caused by what happens, by other people, situations, or things. In the physical universe, physical events do cause physical experience. For example– sugar, salt, fire, and ice all cause the same physical experience to everyone, all the time. There is a Cause – Effect relationship in the physical experience. This is not the case in the non-physical universe of human energy (thoughts, emotions, etc.). For any given event, we find that human experience such as thoughts, judgments, opinions and feelings is completely variable. If we hold constant the external event but observe a variety of human thoughts and emotions about that event, then the cause must be within that which is varying– which is the people. There is no Cause – Effect relationship between external events and emotions. This means that the person, not the external circumstances, is the cause, the creator, of their emotional experience, including happiness. The illusion that external circumstances create emotional experience is the cause of so much misery and most of the conflict in organizations. As long as employees in the organization do not know that they are the creators of their emotions– of their happiness or pain, there is no way to stop the generation of negative energy.
